IPL 2021 is suspended due to COVID-19.

Sorry everyone for the delay on this article. In the last one, I had mentioned that the players of Kolkata Knight Riders and staff members of Chennai Super Kings had tested positive for COVID-19. The next day, Amit Mishra of Delhi Capitals and Wriddhiman Saha of Sunrisers Hyderabad also tested positive. And the batting coach of Chennai, Mike Hussey had his reports positive too. With these many cases, the IPL was finally decided to be suspended. The BCCI says that they would try and complete the tournament later this year and would ensure that the players reach their homes safely for now. As per the latest updates, the England players have reached London. But the crew from Australia might not be able to return to their country that soon. With the travel ban between India and Australia due to COVID-19 in India, the players would be flown to the Maldives by the BCCI. They would have to quarantine there before flying to Australia next.

India registered 3.82 lakhs new COVID cases on 5th May and there were 3780 deaths due to it. This second wave is far from over and the Government's chief scientific officer has warned the Government of the third wave, which he says is inevitable. The situation seems to be getting out of hand with so much news of the shortage of hospitals beds or oxygen cylinders or essential medicines from every part of the country. The High Courts and the Supreme Court have taken the matter into their hands and is holding the State and the Central Governments accountable for the present situation of the country.

We are going through a tough phase and I'm sure that this would not be easy for anyone at present. So the best we can do in this situation is to try and help as many people as possible in any way we can without compromising the safety of ourselves or our family. And if you can't do that, please stay at home and follow the COVID appropriate protocols every time. The health sector of the country is overburdened right now and we need to make sure that we don't add any more burden on it from our side.

There will be more articles on COVID and its updates in the coming weeks. Till then, stay home and stay safe!
