IPL 2021 Match 8: PBKS v/s CSK. Chennai gets 2 points to move to the 2nd spot on the points table.

Hello everyone. Let's talk about the 8th match of IPL 2021 that was played between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings. MS Dhoni was playing his 200th match for Chennai, of which he captained the side in 199 matches and won 3 IPL trophies and 2 CLT20 trophies. And Dhoni could not have asked for a better result in this match. He won the toss at the Wankhede ground and asked KL Rahul and Punjab to bat first.

Deepak Chahar is known for picking up wickets for Chennai up-front in the power play overs but he wasn't able to do so in the last few matches. But he made up for it in today's match. He dismissed Mayank Agarwal in the first over, Chris Gayle in second, Nicholas Pooran in third, and Deepak Hooda in the fourth over of his spell. KL Rahul too was run out in the third over of the power play and Punjab was reduced to 26 runs at the loss of 5 wickets at the end of 7 overs. The variation in Chahar's bowling was impressive. He dismissed Mayank on an out-swinger, Gayle and Deepak on a slow ball, and Pooran on a quick bouncer. And he gave away just 13 runs. It looked difficult for Punjab from there. But Shahrukh Khan and Jhye Richardson stuck in the middle for some time and put up some runs for their team. But Jhye was bowled by Moeen Ali on 15 runs. Shahrukh played a few shots in the last few overs and took his team to 106 runs in their 20 overs. Chennai needed to score 107 to win the match.

For Chennai, Ruturaj Gaikwad had another off day and was struggled in the middle. He could score only 5 runs in 16 balls before he was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh. But Moeen Ali came next to join Faf du Plessis in the middle and they both made the chase look easy for Chennai. Moeen Ali hit 8 boundaries in his inning as he scored 46 runs off 31 balls before being dismissed by Murugan Ashwin. Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu were the next batsmen in that order but both couldn't stay in the middle for long and they were dismissed on consecutive balls by Mohammad Shami on back-to-back bouncers. But the target was too little for Chennai to struggle much. Sam Curran hit the winning runs for Chennai in the 16th over and Chennai won the match comfortably.

Chennai would be mighty pleased with their bowling performance, especially after the last match where all their bowlers had gone for runs. But the bowlers won Chennai the match today. Ravindra Jadeja once again proved why he's the best fielder overall.

Punjab would have to think about their batting performance in today's match. Nobody except Shahrukh Khan could stay on the wicket for long and that's the reason they were restricted for such a small total. It was a second consecutive duck for Pooran and he would want to come back stronger in the next match.

Talking about the next match of IPL, Rohit Sharma would be up against David Warner in the 9th match this season as both Mumbai and Hyderabad would want to win this match. Mumbai had an impressive win against Kolkata in their last match but Hyderabad is still looking for the first win this season. Let's see which team wins. You would be able to read the match summary here on Sunday morning.
