IPL 2021 Match 5: KKR v/s MI. Mumbai Indians had the last laugh.

Hello everyone. Did you watch today's match? Worry not if you could not. Read here about how the match played out.

Kolkata's Eoin Morgan won the toss and asked Rohit's Mumbai to come to bat first on the slow pitch of MA Chidambaram Stadium. Mumbai couldn't get a good start and lost Quinton de Kock in the second over. Next came Suryakumar Yadav to join his captain Rohit in the middle. Surya started playing his shots from the moment he arrived and was taking on Kolkata's bowlers aggressively. But the bowlers were able to contain Rohit on the other end. The two had put on a solid partnership and Surya had reached his fifty as well off just 33 balls. Both looked all set to go big, but just then Shakib Al Hasan dismissed Surya on 56 and Ishan Kishan was held on in the deep in the very next over. Mumbai was 88 for 3 at this stage but they still had nearly half the inning remaining to get a big score from there. But that couldn't happen. Rohit was dismissed by Pat Cummins just when he looked set and had started playing his shots. None of the batsmen after that could do much after that. Hardik Pandya could score only 15 off 17 balls and Kieron Pollard made just 5 off 8 balls. They were the ones Mumbai was counting on to get them past 170 but Mumbai was restricted to 152 in their 20 overs. The highlight of the inning was Andre Russell's fifer which he got in just 2 overs by giving away just 15 runs. Kolkata needed to score 153 and they looked favourites to win the match at that stage of the game.

They had a good start as well as the two openers, Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill, put up a 50 run partnership and got Kolkata the start they wanted. Gill was later dismissed by Rahul Chahar who got 4 wickets in his 4 overs of the match. He dismissed all the first four batsmen, Gill, Rana, Rahul Tripathi, and Eoin Morgan. Rana had scored his fifty and was looking set to take his side home but threw his wicket away on the last ball of Chahar's spell. And that was the turning point of the match. KKR needed 49 from 43 balls at one stage which became 31 from 29 later but they still lost the match by 10 runs. Dinesh Karthick stayed not out as he made 8 runs off 11 balls and couldn't get the strike in the last three balls of the match where Kolkata needed 13 to win. The villain for Kolkata was their hero of the previous inning, Russell who got out in the final over after scoring 9 off 15 balls. Krunal Pandya was the most economical of all as he gave away just 13 runs in his 4 overs and got the wicket of Shakib too. Russel was dropped twice by Mumbai but they didn't have to pay for those dropped catches. Mumbai's bowlers were too good in the death overs as they gave away just 11 runs in the final three overs.

The bowlers of both teams had a brilliant game and the match was a low-scoring one with Mumbai holding their nerves better in the end. Nobody except Suryakumar was able to play freely for Mumbai and everyone except the two openers for Kolkata had a bad game with the bat. The middle order of both the teams hasn't looked at its best in both their matches and they would want to work on that.

Up next, we have another match at Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday and Royal Challengers Bangalore would be taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the evening. Bangalore had won their first match against Mumbai and Hyderabad had lost their first match against Kolkata. Both the teams would be eager to get those two points by winning the match. Let's see which team does get those points. Read the summary of the match here on Thursday morning.
