Hello everyone and I apologize for being late with the match summary of Chennai Super Kings v/s Sunrisers Hyderabad, the 23rd match of IPL 2021. But better late than never, so here it is. The match was played at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi. David Warner won the toss and decided to bat first and MS Dhoni was happy to bowl first at the surface where we predicted something for the bowlers in the first inning and expected dew to play a role in the second inning.
David Warner and Johnny Bairstow opened for Hyderabad but Bairstow was dismissed early for 7 runs by Sam Curran. Manish Pandey and Warner played well for the second wicket and built a strong partnership together but Warner struggled to play his shots. He couldn't score at a quick run rate as many of his well-timed shots went straight to the fielders. Manish showed some intent in his knock as he was brought back in the squad after being dropped for two matches. Both of them went on to make their half-centuries as Warner made 57 runs in 55 balls and Manish made 61 runs in 46 balls. But both of them were dismissed by Lungi Ngidi and it seemed at that stage that Hyderabad might end up scoring 150-155 runs in 20 overs. But Kane Williamson's quick-fire 26 runs in 10 balls and Kedar Jadhav's small cameo of 12 runs in 4 balls took their team's total to 171 runs and Chennai needed to score 172 in their 20 overs to win the match.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis opened for Chennai and both started playing their shots from the start. They batted aggressively and kept the required run-rate below the scoring run-rate almost throughout the inning. They had 100 runs on the board in the 12th over and Chennai had the match in its grip. Gaikwad was dismissed by Rashid Khan and he went back after scoring 75 runs in 44 balls. Rashid dismissed Faf too and he made 56 runs in 38 balls. The two hit 19 boundaries in total between them. Rashid picked up his third wicket in the match as well as he dismissed Moeen Ali for 15 runs but the equation had become too easy for Chennai by then. Suresh Raina hit the winning runs as Chennai won the match with 9 balls remaining and regained the top spot in the points table once again. Hyderabad remained at the bottom-most as they have only one win in 6 matches.
Chennai had a complete team performance in this match as well and it has won 5 consecutive matches. Sunrisers would be disappointed with their performance as the whole team is yet to click together.
On 29th April, there are two matches. The first one was played between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai won that match. We'll discuss the summary of that match in the next article. The second match is being played between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders currently. Kolkata is batting first and it is 4 wickets down in the 13th over with 81 runs on the board.
