IPL 2021 Match 22: DC v/s RCB. Bangalore move to the top spot after winning their fifth match.

Hello everyone and thank you for joining again for another match summary. The 22nd match was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals at Narendra Modi stadium. Delhi won the toss and decided to bowl first and they would have expected dew to come down just like the match the day before but there was no dew in this game and Bangalore held their nerves well as the match went to the last ball and they won by 1 run.

Virat Kohli and Devdutt Paddikal opened the inning for Bangalore and the two made 25 runs in 3 overs. But Avesh Khan bowled Kohli on the last ball of the 4th over and Kohli went back after making 12 runs. Ishant Sharma bowled Paddikal on the first ball of the 5th over and Paddikal went back after making 17 runs. Glenn Maxwell hit a few boundaries and looked good but was dismissed on 25 runs. Bangalore was 3 wickets down on 60 runs at that stage. Rajat Patidar and AB de Villiers next put up a good partnership and the two added 54 runs for the 4th wicket before Patidar was dismissed by Axar Patel on 31 runs. After that, it was the ABD show as Bangalore scored 56 runs in the last 5 overs and they got 23 runs in the last over off Marcus Stoinis. ABD scored 75 runs in 42 balls and Bangalore finished on 171 runs in the first inning and Delhi needed to make 172 runs to win the match. Except for that last over of Stoinis, the bowlers of Delhi bowled well and they picked up wickets and regular intervals. But that last over was the game changer eventually.

For Delhi, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithwi Shaw opened the inning but Dhawan got out early on 6 runs. Steve Smith too couldn't stay for long and got out on 4 runs. Prithwi Shaw got the start and made 21 runs but threw his wicket away chasing a wide ball and was caught behind by ABD. Pant and Stoinis added 45 runs for the 4th wicket as the two kept Delhi in the chase but Stoinis was dismissed by  Harshal Patel who picked up 2 wickets in this match too. Delhi needed 80 runs in 44 balls to win the match at that stage and in came Shimron Hetmyor at number 6. Hetmyer was dropped by Paddikal on 15 runs and he went on to make 50 after that. He played his shots and made 53 runs in 25 balls but Mohammad Siraj bowled an impressive last over where he had to defend 14 runs and he gave away just 12. Pant made 58 runs in 48 balls but his efforts fell short and Delhi lost the match by 1 run in the end. Siraj was a little expensive but his yorkers were spot on again in this match and Harshal Patel has already picked up 17 wickets this year and he's the man with the golden arm for Bangalore.

Delhi would be disappointed about some of the decisions made by Pant in the first inning as he didn't complete the 4 overs of Amit Mishra and gave the last over to Stoinis in front of ABD. Their top-order could have done better too and Kagiso Rabada just doesn't look like the bowler he was the previous year. Bangalore too had a top-order collapse early on and it was ABD at the end who added 23 runs in the final overs that proved to be really helpful in the end. Their bowlers did well in the most part of the second inning and they deserved to win this match.

Now if we talk about the next match, that would be played between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Chennai is on the second spot in the points table whereas Hyderabad is at the bottom. Hyderabad would want to make a turn around of fortune for themselves as they take on Chennai and would want to win the upcoming matches. We'll have to wait and see if they are able to win against Dhoni's 11 or not. Please find the summary of that match here on Thursday morning. Till then, stay safe and stay at home!
