IPL 2021 Match 21: PBKS v/s KKR. Kolkata finally win a match.

Hello everyone and thank you for coming to read the match summary of match 21 of the IPL 2021. Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders played this match on the Narendra Modi stadium and Kolkata won the lucky toss and they decided to bowl first. Kolkata went with an unchanged team while Punjab made just one change and brought in Chris Jordan on Fabian Allen's place. The match was a low scoring one and Kolkata got a much-needed victory at the end.

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal opened the batting for Punjab and they couldn't score freely in the power play overs. KL was dismissed in the 6th over on 19 runs but Punjab had just 36 runs on the board at that stage. Mayank played 34 balls but scored only 31 runs and was dismissed by Sunil Narine. Chris Gayle and Deepak Hooda got out cheaply and Punjab was 4 wickets down on 60 runs in the 12th over. Nicholas Pooran and Shahrukh Khan made 19 and 13 runs respectively but could not continue after that and they got out. Chris Jordan made 30 runs in 18 balls at the end but that wasn't enough and Punjab could put up only 123 runs in their 20 overs. Prasidh Krishna picked up 3 wickets and Sunil Narine and Pat Cummins picked up 2 wickets each and Kolkata bowlers were impressive in the first inning. Kolkata needed just 124 runs to win their second match of the tournament.

Shubhman Gill and Nitish Rana opened for Kolkata and Kolkata lost 3 early wickets. Nitish Rana and Sunil Narine got out on 0 and Shubhman Gill got out on 9 runs. Kolkata was 3 wickets down for 17 runs at the end of 3 overs. But Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi built a partnership after that and they took their time and kept the scoreboard moving. Tripathi got out after making 41 runs and the equation had become easy for Kolkata at that stage. Morgan finally played a good inning though and went back not out after winning the match for his side. Morgan stayed not out on 47 runs and Dinesh Karthik stayed not out on 12 runs and Kolkata won the match with 20 balls remaining. The match did get interesting after Kolkata's early losses in the power play overs but Punjab bowlers didn't have much to play with and they couldn't defend it. Kolkata finally won a match after 4 consecutive losses.

Kolkata would be happy with their bowlers but they still would be disappointed with their top-order batsmen. The team management is backing them up and the players need to return their favour with their performance. For Punjab, there are a lot of things to worry about. The openers aren't consistent and the middle-order is yet to click in the tournament. Their bowlers have been expensive on a few matches as well but they still need some runs to defend which they didn't get in this match. The two teams would want to get their key players to play well in the upcoming matches now.

Talking about the next match, Delhi Capitals would be up against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Narendra Modi stadium on 27th April and it would be an exciting match. Both teams have won 4 in their 5 matches and they would want to win this one. We'll have to wait to see which team really wins. Please read the summary of that match here on Wednesday morning.
