IPL 2021 Match 2: CSK v/s DC. DC start their season with a win.

Hello everyone. Today we are going to be talking about the second match of the IPL that was played between the Chennai Super Kings and the Delhi Capitals. DC and their new captain for this season, Rishabh Pant had the last laugh in the game as they defeated Dhoni's brigade by 7 wickets in an easy run chase.

Talking in detail about the match, DC won the toss and they put CSK in to bat first at the Wankhede cricket stadium. Wankhede ground is known for its pace and bounce and with the dew coming into play in the second inning, run chase is considered an easier option than defending a total here. So CSK had to make sure they put up a huge total for DC to chase down. CSK didn't have a good start and they lost both their openers in the first 3 overs. But Moeen Ali and Suresh Raina steadied the ship for CSK and they built a good partnership in the middle. The partnership ensured the run rate was never too low as CSK couldn't afford to leave too much for the end, the style of play they are known for, at least on this particular ground. Moeen Ali was eventually dismissed by R. Ashwin after a quickfire 36 but he had almost done his job. CSK had recovered from those two early blows. Ambati Rayudu and Raina then continued for CSK and they also maintained the run rate at around 8.5-9 runs per over. CSK lost both Rayudu and Raina when they both were looking good to accelerate further. Rayudu made 23 and Raina made 36 balls - 54 runs and set the stage for the middle order of CSK. Dhoni couldn't stay in the middle for long and was dismissed by Avesh Khan for a duck. But Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran were impressive for CSK in the last 4 overs and they took CSK's total to 188, thanks to Jadeja's 17 balls - 26 and Sam's 15 balls - 34. Chris Woakes and Avesh Khan were the only successful bowlers for DC as the others were quite expensive.

DC got an impressive start as their openers went fourth gear from the word go and scored 65 runs in the power play overs only. Prithvi Shaw was lucky as he CSK dropped his catch twice but he didn't make it easy for the CSK bowlers in any way. Shikhar Dhawan and he kept scoring at 10-10.5 an over throughout. Shaw was eventually dismissed on 72 which he scored in just 38 balls but Dhawan didn't slow down even after that. He was finally dismissed after he had ensured DC's win. He scored 54 balls - 85 runs and DC just needed run-a-ball in the last 3 overs. Pant hit a four in the 19th over to win the match for his side in what was an easy run chase.

With this win, DC start their climb in the leaderboard by adding 2 points to their name. Their batting looks strong and if their openers could continue their good form throughout the season, they will be a tough side to beat. Their bowling didn't seem that strong but we can expect things to improve once Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje come into the playing 11.

CSK would be pleased with their batting performance today. They would want to give their openers a few more chances as this was just the first game of the season and hopefully, their openers would start clicking in too. Dhoni might continue batting at 6-7-8 as the situation demands but he needs a good game to live up to his stature of a finisher once again. CSK would also want to bring in either Lungi Ngidi or Jason Behrendorff to have an express pacer in their playing 11 as those bowlers would be crucial on pitches of Wankhede and Eden.

Both these teams would be eyeing a win in their next game now. But the next game in IPL will be played between David Warner's Sunrisers Hyderabad and Eoin Morgan's Kolkata Knight Riders. Both sides have a strong squad and we expect an exciting game of cricket on Sunday evening. Do catch up on the match result here on Monday morning.
