IPL 2021 Match 17: MI v/s PBKS. Mumbai's middle order disappoints once again.

Hello everyone and thanks for reading this summary of match 17 of the Dream 11 IPL 2021. Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings were up against each other and both teams needed a win in this match. Punjab won the toss and elected to bowl first at the MA Chidambaram stadium. Mumbai needed to put runs on the board for their bowlers to defend as its middle order had failed in the previous matches and wasn't helping the bowlers.

Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Cock opened the inning for Mumbai but Quinton was dismissed by Deepak Hooda in the second over of the match. Mumbai surprisingly sent Ishan Kishan before Suryakumar Yadav but he too couldn't do much and was dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi in the 7th over. Mumbai only had 21 runs on board in the powerplay and things looked difficult for them from there but Suryakumar and Rohit built a strong partnership after that. Suryakumar scored 33 runs before being dismissed and the stage was set for the middle-order batsmen. But none of Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya could time the ball and Mumbai was restricted to 131 runs. Rohit scored 52 balls - 63 runs but got out just when he looked good to press the accelerator in the final overs. Mohammad Shami and Ravi Bishnoi both picked up 2 wickets and were very economical too. Punjab needed to score 132 runs to win the match.

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal opened for Punjab and gave their team a very good start. Punjab had 45 runs on board after the power play overs and hadn't lost any wicket. Mayank was dismissed soon after that though and went back to the pavilion after scoring 25 runs. But the Punjab batters had the luxury to pace their inning as they needed around 80 runs in 70 balls. Chris Gayle and KL Rahul took their time and played risk-free cricket. Rahul scored his slowest fifty of the tournament but he saw his team cross the line. He was also awarded the Man of the Match award for his performance. There was some excitement at one stage in the middle overs when the ball was new and was spinning during the overs bowled by spinners but Punjab didn't throw any wicket there and eventually won the match by 9 wickets.

Mumbai would be disappointed with its middle-order once again and the form of Quinton de Cock and Ishan Kishan is a cause of concern too. The team would hope to get back on winning track in the next match. For Punjab, it was their best win yet and the team would be mighty pleased with the overall performance of the whole team. They have climbed up the points table to the 5th spot now and would want to move into the top four now.

The next match now is between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Both the teams are at the bottom of the points table and have won just 1 win in the 4 matches they have played. Kolkata might take some inspiration from their last match against Chennai and would want to play aggressive in the next match. Rajasthan will have to make some changes in their playing 11 to change their luck. We'll wait to see which team gets 2 points in this match.
