IPL 2021 Match 13: MI v/s DC. Delhi finally wins against Mumbai after 5 consecutive losses before this.

Hello everyone once again. Let's talk about the match 13 of the tournament that was played between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. Both teams had won their last matches and wanted to continue the winning spree but only one of them managed that after this match and it was the Delhi Capitals.

Rohit Sharma won the toss at the MA Chidambaram stadium and decided to bat first. He and Quinton de Cock opened the batting for Mumbai. But Quinton was dismissed on 2 runs by Marcus Stoinis in the 3rd over of the match. Suryakumar Yadav came in next and started playing his shots. Rohit too looked in good touch and was hitting his shots well. But both the batsmen were dismissed just when they looked set to go big. Mumbai had gotten a good start with 55 runs in the first 6 overs, but once Surya and Rohit got down, the match started turning in Delhi's favour. Hardik Pandya was dismissed by Amit Mishra in the same over that he got the wicket of Rohit. His brother, Krunal Pandya too didn't both the scorers much and was bowled by Lalit Yadav on 1 run. Everything came down to Kieron Pollard and Ishan Kishan to get Mumbai's inning back on track but dismissed Kieron on 2 runs and Ishan on 1 run and Mumbai could manage only 137 runs in the first inning. Mumbai could get to 137 because Jayant Yadav contributed with the bat lower down the order and made 23 runs in 22 balls. Delhi needed to make 138 runs to win their 3rd match in the tournament.

Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan opened for Delhi. Shaw was sent back by Jayant in the 2nd over only and Steve Smith came in to join Shikhar in the middle. Smith and Shikhar put up a strong partnership in the middle and ensured the required run-rate was never a problem for them. Smith made 29 balls - 33 runs and Shikhar made 42 balls - 45 runs. They needed to get Delhi close to Mumbai's score and they did just that. There was some late drama once they both were dismissed but Delhi needed just 15 runs in the last 2 overs which wasn't too much of a problem for them. They were definitely assisted by Mumbai's bowlers and Jasprit Bumrah bowled 2 no balls in the 19th over and Kieron Pollard bowled a no ball to take Delhi get that last run in the final over.

Delhi would be very pleased with their bowlers, especially Amit Mishra and Avesh Khan who picked up 4 and 2 wickets respectively. All the bowlers were economical as well but it was Amit Mishra who picked those crucial 4 wickets to win the match for his side, for which he was awarded the Man of the Match award too.

Mumbai's bowlers did well to take the match till the last over but they just didn't have enough to defend. Their batsmen would be disappointed with themselves as their top orders had gotten starts but couldn't continue and their middle order failed completely.

Delhi get those 2 crucial points to move to the second spot in the points table while Mumbai move to the fourth spot. Both teams would want to win their next match now. Anyway, up next we have two matches on 21st April. Punjab Kings would be up against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the afternoon match and Chennai Super Kings would play Kolkata Knight Riders in the evening match. Both Punjab and Hyderabad have lost their last matches and are at the bottom of the points table currently, with Hyderabad yet to win a single match in the tournament. And Kolkata lost their last match where Chennai won theirs. All the four teams would be looking to win but only two would manage to do that. Let's find out which those two teams would be. Come back here to read the summary of the matches on Thursday morning.
